First, let us all come together as alumni and pray for peace and understanding. Let’s pray for our HBCU community, as well as for world peace as we process so many tragedies that are beyond understanding. I am very much looking forward to gathering on Lincoln University’s hallowed grounds on Saturday, and I have to believe that love will prevail.

On September 16, 2023, I presented at the LU Board of Trustees Meeting. I spoke about the 3 Ps that will be the ingredients to our success: People, Power, and Participation.

For people, I acknowledged the many Fallen Lions who have gone to glory in recent months and the numerous resolutions and letters of condolence prepared. Institutions are made up of PEOPLE, and we are one LU family. I also thanked our outgoing Alumni Trustees, Frances Paul ‘79 and Robert Allen ‘80, for their service and similarly thanked our outgoing Treasurer, Rita McCaskill ‘91 and Program Chair, Dawn Easter McCoy ‘89. I welcomed our two new Alumni Trustees, Drs. Rodney Ridley ‘87 and Tiffany Harrison ‘08 and announced that the AALU has a new National Treasurer, Christopher Hill ‘76 and a new Program Chair, Sandra Marigna Harmon ‘81.

For power, I spoke about the money that empowers our mission. I reported on the success of our 3rd Annual Golf Tournament. We were still tracking down donations, but I announced that our Homecoming donation will be over $35,000. I also announced that our top sponsor was Pamela D. Bundy, ‘84, followed by our two 2nd place sponsors – Longwood Gardens and the Blue Family, the Sigmas & Zetas. Additionally, we secured Lancaster & Associates, United Concordia Dental and Highmark Health, to name a few more.

Our Greek Challenge yielded close to $20,000 in donations with almost all D9 organizations participating. Delta Sigma Theta earned the bragging rights, followed closely by the Blue Family and Kappa Alpha Psi.

I thanked Charles Latta ‘81 and his committee who worked so hard, as did our dozens of volunteers. And, I announced that we have already set the date for next year. It will be on Monday, July 15, 2024. Please reach out to me at President@aalupa.org if you would like to join the golf committee. This is now our signature event, and we need volunteers.

Finally, for participation, I shared that we are still seeking nominations for Alumni Trustee. Since then, we have extended the deadline for nominations to October 16, 2023. Do you know anyone who meets the criteria and who has the competencies for the role? Please send them to Bonnie Bowser ‘78, our Nominations Chair: https://tinyurl.com/AALUAlumniTrusteeNom

See you at Homecoming! Please stop by the breakfast Meet & Greet and the Sugar Shack Hydration Station Tailgate.

Congratulations to Dr. Kaye Whitehead '91 on the opening of the physical space of the Karson Institute at Loyola University of Maryland. Dr. Whitehead convened family, friends, scholars, colleagues, and of course Lincoln Lions to gather on Monday, October 9, 2023 to toast and celebrate her beautiful new space. The Karson Institute provides a scholarly space for professors, students, social justice workers, and activists to come together to research, discuss, debate, and explore answers to America’s most urgent questions on inequality, injustice, and racial inequity. Artist Calvin Coleman '89 painted the iconic mural for the gorgeous space. The AALU is proud to spotlight Dr. Whitehead for living the Lincoln legacy. (Click to see photos from the event).
