Honorary ChairmanJim Thorpe is one of the great pioneers in professional golf. Currently playing on the PGA Champions Tour, his legendary success is grounded in his love for the game and his perseverance to achieve even when it was difficult to find golf courses allowing African Americans to play. Affectionately known as “Thorpie”, he attended Morgan State University before turning pro in 1972, beating Jack Nicklaus by three strokes at the Greater Milwaukee Open in 1985. Thorpe has finished 1st on the Champions Tour 13 times. He serves as the Ambassador to Tobago's Junior Golf Academy in Trinidad and is dedicated to activities to increase the number of minority golfers to the sport. |
Cyrus D. Jones Special GuestCyrus D. Jones, a 2007 Hall of Fame Inductee to the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coach Association, affectionately known as “Coach,” led the Lincoln University track & field team to 15 NCAA Division III championships. In his 36 years as head coach, the teams won 15 national titles. A six-time recipient of the Division III National Coach of the Year award and a Mid East Region Track Coach of the Year, Coach relied on his legendary penchant for bonding with athletes and his deep knowledge of the sport to build the program over time. Coach Jones served as Lincoln’s athletic director and was a tenured professor. Coach was honored as one of the top 100 sports figures in the Philadelphia region by the Philadelphia Tribune. |
